Our Mission
To cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases.

Our Focus
To serve the Louisiana and Mississippi inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) community through local support groups, patient education, and events, while raising money for local and national research that will lead to cures. Our hope is to continue building a tight knit community of support and finding new and better ways to serve our IBD patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers.

The Race
The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s 3rd Annual Bottoms Up 5K is a community running event scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2019. The event is held at the Tin Roof Brewery in Baton Rouge, LA and race route goes along the Mississippi River Levee. Registration opens at 7 am as well as the exhibitor booths/tables and the race begins at 8:30 am. There is a post-race party with food, drinks, and entertainment. The purpose of event is to raise awareness and research funds for Crohn’s disease & ulcerative colitis.

We kindly ask for your support to offer more opportunities to engage and empower the local IBD community while bringing greater awareness to these painful and debilitating diseases.

In 2018, we doubled our fundraising from $5,000 to over $10,000 and increased registration from 45 to 124 participants. Our race committee included local Pediatric GIs and residents, Meredith Hitch, Beth McDonough, Emily Klepper, Nicole Zeky, and Sussette Gonzalez, who founded this community event to expand additional support and resources to a new demographic of runners, young professionals, and outdoor enthusiasts who may not currently be engaging with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. As we grow our chapter, our goal is to offer year-round touch points for the IBD community to engage with the mission of the Foundation to find cures!
