Hi, I'm Josh Brown. You might know me from my regular appearances on CNBC or my popular blog, The Reformed Broker. I also have Crohn's disease. I was first diagnosed in 1998 and have been hospitalized many times during multiple flare-up episodes ever since. I spent two decades trying to control the effects of Crohn's with a low-residue diet - raw vegetables, seeds, nuts and other abrasive, fibrous foods were simply off the menu.
Crohn's disease has been a part of my life since I was 21 years old, but it hasn't stopped me from getting married, having two great kids, building my career and launching my own firm. There is a lot of stress that comes along with running a business and working on Wall Street. This stress has undoubtedly been a contributing factor for some of the worst flare-ups I've had over the years. But being aware of the issue has helped me keep these episodes to a minimum and I'm hoping the medication will enable me to put off having surgery for as long as possible.
Last year I began bimonthly shots of Stelara under the guidance of NYU Langone Nassau Gastroenterology Associates. According to my doctor, we'll only know if it's working based on the absence of future episodes of pain and discomfort.
I have committed myself to helping to find a cure, and so, with my appearances I am requesting that a donation be made to the Crohn's & Colitis foundation so that we may find a cure and prevent future generations from the pain and suffering so many, like myself endure today.
I thank you, in advance.
