I thought my life was over once I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. I was an 8th grader sitting in the hospital not knowing what was going on. At age 23, I have accomplished a lot in my life. When I was first diagnosed, I was taking 18 pills a day and going to the bathroom at least five times a day. A few years later after I was diagnosed, I had a flareup. I ended up in the hospital for eight days and was missing school. I wanted to get out of the hospital as fast as I could, but I needed to know what was going on. At age 15 I had my second colonoscopy. The doctors finally decided to start a biologic infusion. I have had the best luck with biologic med. I have been doing it since I was 15 years old. I am now at the point where I can have the nurses come to my home and I get the infusion at the comfort of my own home.
After playing golf in high school and college, graduating with my bachelor's degree from AIB, getting a full-time job, and getting engaged. I would say my life is pretty great and normal.
After ten years of having Ulcerative Colitis, I finally heard the doctor say that my colon looks like it could be in a text book with healthy colons.
My life is far from over and I am kicking butt. Don't let Ulcerative Colitis stop you from doing anything!
