Ben's Story

My son Ben was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when he was 7 years old. He had been constantly visiting the nurses office at school and when presented to the pediatrician at the time it was dismissed with 'watch the diet' even though it was something that was going on for quite some time. We finally were fortunate enough to meet Dr Gueverra Ben's gastroenterologist who took so much time to ask specific questions which led to testing and the diagnosis of Crohn's. Dr. Gueverra has gone above and beyond caring so much for Ben he has made all the difference in the world trying to cope with his condition. After trying a few medications we are finally at a point where Ben is doing pretty well and symptoms are pretty well managed.

Ben has 2 major surgeries when he was 10 years old, 2 1/2 years ago, due to a neurological issue which has left him with permanent damage to his optic nerves and has very impaired peripheral vision. He has gone through so much at such a young age and is so unbelievably brave, many of the doctors who have treated him comment on what a "great kid" he is, while undergoing tests, surgery and more.

We can't thank the people who work every day to find a cure enough, I m personally very grateful that the treatments have come so far in recent years. And thank you to my son who fights through all he goes through.
