Indiana Take Steps

Team Capital Group

There are many Capital Group associates that are impacted by these diagnoses and we want to make sure they all feel supported.  Scott is this year’s honoree for the Capital Group IND Site due to his last year of battling Ulcerative Colitis.

Here is an excerpt from a recent conversation with Scott about his diagnosis:

The Bad

“I stayed in the hospital for 12 days until I finally stopped bleeding.  I started a medication called Remicade which is done by infusions.  I went on Remicade and did 4 infusions over 4 or 5 months…

…After 5 months, the infusions didn’t work.  I was in a flare up.  [When] my GI specialist said that we were going to try a new drug.  I asked him if it would be another 4 months of me feeling awful before we knew if this drug worked.  His answer changed my life.  He said, ‘Yes, it could take months and if we decided that one didn’t work, we’d need to try another one.’

I was done at this point.  I asked to have my colon removed. [I] needed a total colectomy, which means they removed my entire colon (large intestines)."

The Good

“I just had my 6-month post-surgery appointment and my surgeon said I am doing great and doesn’t need to see me unless problems arise.

Now that I am healthy, I am so excited to share my story and support others through what I already know is a very difficult time!!

As I said I had no idea what Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s was prior to being diagnosed.  I wish I was more aware, and I think I would have been able to see signs much sooner.”

Take Steps is committed to helping the research and awareness of these diagnoses to help those like our very own Scott recognize the signs sooner, and the treatment options available.  They’re also committed to finding better treatments and potential cures!
