  • Corporate Partners

Our corporate partners have committed their time and money to support our mission to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. We want to extend a special thank you to those businesses and organizations who sponsor our event through monetary and in-kind donations, who provide volunteer support before, during, and after the event, and who offer matching campaigns to double or even triple the impact.

  • Honorees
  • Meet your Utah Honored Hero, Brenda Ruthizer!

Hi, I’m Brenda Ruthizer and I am so happy to be the Honored Hero for the 2021 SLC Take Steps Fundraising Event. When diagnosed with IBD 47 years ago, I could never imagine how I was going to live a normal life with Crohns. My doctors were not certain that I would live through all the surgeries I had as a child. But I am here, proof that although it is not easy having IBD, a full life is out there waiting for you with all the fun, amazing things you want to do.

Since I love to be active and travel, having Crohn’s means some additional efforts: I travel overseas with a cooler for my medications (extra baggage anyone?); I take extra precautions to stay hydrated since I have only 5 feet of small bowel remaining (I’m never without a water bottle); and I’ve had to get use to landing in a hospital for a day, many of the times on vacation
    (US, China, Sahara Desert, France).

Being on biologics for the last 14 years has helped my symptoms. The support from family and friends, has greatly helped my spirit. And being involved with CCFA , especially the Rocky Mountain Chapter where I get a wealth of new knowledge about the disease, has helped me form new bonds with fellow IBD-ers.

None of us wants IBD, but I truly believe that all of us that are afflicted with this disease, are able to handle it because we are strong in spirit. And to see so many others with that strength who tackle IBD, I am inspired to be a working part of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation to help make others lives better every day, until there is a cure.

I may be the Honored Hero for SLC this year, but in my eyes, everyone who suffers from Colitis or Crohns, and those that support us are all real IBD heroes.

  • Volunteer

Thousands of volunteers have helped the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) work toward our mission to find cures for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. Without our volunteers, we would not be able to provide a high level of support, education, research, and resources to our IBD community.
