Welcome to My Personal Page
I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease at the age of four. This makes Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) something I have had to deal with for essentially my entire life. While there are many treatments for Crohn's disease, there is no cure, and most of us have to try a variety of medications to find the right combination to keep us healthy.
When I was younger, I was in and out of the hospital year after year. At 14, after being hospitalized for almost two weeks and missing my 8th grade graduation ceremony, I was told that I was too sick to go to the summer camp that I was so excited to attend. But then my mom told me about Camp Oasis: a literal oasis for kids with the same thing as me (and all the struggles, fears, and worries that come along with it).
That first summer at Camp Oasis had an extraordinary effect on me. Not only did I feel like I immediately fit in, I found a second family. I have gone back every summer since then. I spent two summers as a camper, two summers as a leader-in-training, and the last eight summers volunteering as a counselor. It is so important for me to continue giving back to the camp that gave me so much.
As a Camp Oasis counselor, I have seen so many amazing and resiliant campers come and go. No matter how sick or alone they feel at the start of camp, by the end of the week, I see transformations. Campers come out of their shells, share how their disease affects them, and find friends who truly understand them. They know they can lean on each other, whether it’s a knowing laugh over a poo-related joke or a confidence boost to overcome stage fright before a silly skit. It is truly an unbelievable experience.
I want to make a difference in the fight against Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. This coming April, I will be hiking all throughout Zion National Park to raise money to find a cure for my campers, for my friends, and for the 1.6 million Americans who suffer from these diseases.
Please consider making a donation. No donation is too small. Eighty cents of every dollar donated is used to pay for research, education, and support programs. This is a big undertaking, but it will be worth it because your donations will not only motivate me while I am hiking, they will also make a meaningful difference toward finding a cure. Please consider a donation to support me and those who hike beside me on this journey.
Thank you so much!
