Welcome to My Why!!
I have decided to make a difference in the fight against Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. On July 29, 2019 I will participate in the Santa Rose 70.3 Ironman. This will be my 3rd time for this particular race but still a big undertaking, but it will all be worth it because your donations will not only motivate me to the finish, but they will help us get closer to the cure.
As you may or may not know last year was a rough year for me health wise and I had to cancel my "A" race (Chattanooga 70.3 in May) but thanks to me coaches and my teammates with Team Challenge I was able to pull off a sucessfull 70.3 in Santa Rosa in July 2018. In December 2017 I unexpectedly whie out of town had emergency surgery to repair a ruptured bowel that had cause me to go septic. The surgery left me with a temporary Colostomy, a lot of scaring, multiple trips to the ER, and a new found respect for all my teammates affected with Crohn's & Colitis and what they go thru each and every day. Thankfully I was able to reverse my colostomy in mid April and slowly put my health back on track. With the support and encoragement of my team I slowly started to train again as I had a race at the end of July, not knowing if I would be ready I still had to try as this is what gave me the push I needed to get fit again. My team supported me and what better way to say thank you is to get out and and train with them will raising funds in their honor.
I am pretty sure eveyone out there knows at least one person (and probably many) that live with these diseases, they just might not share it publically with you. Please if you don't mind I would really appreciate your support to get me back out there and have a comeback year to beat last years finish time and help us get one step closer to finding a cure? All donations are tax deductable.
About Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are both major categories of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). IBD affects an estimated 1.6 million Americans. These chronic diseases tend to run in families and they affect males and females equally. Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract and may affect any part from the mouth to the anus. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory condition limited to the colon, otherwise known as the large intestine.
The Mission of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America is: To cure and prevent Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis through research, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these digestive diseases through education and support.
