Help CURE Crohn's and Colitis
I have decided to help make a difference in the fight against Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. On June 9, 2019 I will participate in the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman, which will be a big undertaking! Your donations will not only motivate me to the finish, but they will help us get closer to a cure. Won’t you please consider a donation today?
I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease when I was 18 and about to graduate high school. Throughout school I had one goal - join the Marine Corps. After graduation, I met with a recruiter who ultimately asked if I had any health conditions. I didn’t think anything about it, so we discussed my recent diagnosis of Crohn’s disease. He looked at me and said, "Sorry, you can’t join the Corps." I was in shock, but then asked which branch of military could I join. Again apologizing, he stated that I couldn't join any branch with Crohn's disease.
Disheartened, I continued to work at a marina while taking over 20 pills a day to help control the disease. I soon lost interest in taking pills daily that weren't working, was fine for couple months, but then the disease soon showed its nasty head and knocked me down. I went back to the doctor to seek other medical options and ultimately chose a bimonthly IV called Remicade. I've been receiving Remicade treatments for over 10 years and have been in remission! In the interim, I've successfully pursued a Fire Paramedic career aligning with my originally military dreams.
I have always been active and recently started doing various races with my wife - last year I did my first sprint triathlon and loved it! I am running two triathlons this year (Sprint & Olympic), but am looking forward to completing a 70.3 Ironman! I was going to register on my own, but then came across “Team Challenge” who raise money for Crohn's and Colitis research. What better way to help contribute to beat these nasty diseases!
