Many years ago I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and a related disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). PSC is progressive disease of the liver and gallbladder characterized by inflammation and scarring of the bile ducts which leads to cirrhosis of the liver and liver failure. Over many years the disease progressed to end state liver failure and cholangiocarcinoma, cancer of the bile ducts. In 2012 following chemotherapy and radiation treatments I was the very fortunate recipient of a lifesaving liver transplant. Thanks to the generous anonymous donor and the UCLA liver team I have a new lease on life and turned to fitness to recover my physical and mental strength. My completed recovery challenges include many double century bike rides, Ironman Oceanside 70.3 and Ironman Boulder 70.3 and the Surf City marathon. In November 2019 I completed Ironman Arizona, my first full Ironman. I reached my recovery goal with Ironman Arizona and will continue to lead a healthy active lifestyle and participate in cycling, triathlon and other events. Next up is Ride the Rockies followed by Ironmen 70/3 Santa Cruz and Ironman California.
