Joe & Amanda Carrotta - Crohn's and Colitis Fundraising Page
Thank you for coming to our fundraising page. You may know our journey or you may not. We both have ulcerative colitis and because of our disease it led us to each other in 2011. We met doing exactly this - fundraising with Team Challenge to support the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. A few half marathons, a wedding, and two kids later, we are still working hard to make a difference in the fight against Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Our main focus is to do our part to find a cure so our two daughters will never have to endure these diseases. We are also focused on our health. Recently in the midst of the pandemic, Amanda was in the hospital for a week with a severe ulcerative colitis flare. Over the last few months, through sheer determination and finding the right medication coupled with a holistic approach, she has regained most of her strength and is focused on achieving remission. This disease is ever present in our lives even though we are extremely diligent with our diets and health.
Even a pandemic cannot stop us from moving forward. Joe has been participating in virtual runs and bike rides to raise awareness. And now, Joe is registered to run the Hamptons Half Marathon on October 2, 2021.
For these reasons, we are reaching out to our community for support. Please consider making a donation to support us on our journey to find a cure for these diseases. The funds that are raised go to supporting the foundation's mission to find a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis by funding the research that will further advance us in finding a cure.
Over the years, we have raised over $35,000 to support the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation and have participated in multiple half marathons (Las Vegas x2, NYC, Savannah) and countless 5Ks and 10Ks. We will not stop until there is a cure!!!
Thank you so much for coming to our fundraising page and contributing your hard-earned money! We are truly grateful for your support!
With Love and Appreciation,
Joe & Amanda

About Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
Known collectively as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis affects almost 1 in 100 people. They are painful, medically incurable diseases that attack the digestive system. Crohn's disease may attack anywhere along the digestive tract, while ulcerative colitis inflames only the large intestine (colon). Symptoms may include abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, rectal bleeding, fever, and weight loss. Many patients require numerous hospitalizations and surgery. Most people develop the diseases between the ages of 15 and 35; however the incidence is increasing in children.
The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation is the largest non-profit, voluntary, health organization dedicated to finding cures for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). The Foundation’s mission is to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults who are affected by these diseases. The Foundation works to fulfill its mission by funding research; providing educational resources for patients and their families, medical professionals, and the public; and furnishing supportive services for those afflicted with IBD.
