Joe & Amanda Carrotta - Crohn's and Colitis Fundraising Page
Thank you for coming to our fundraising page. Quick background on our story and journey.
We both have ulcerative colitis and because of our diseases it led us to each other in 2011. We met doing exactly this - fundraising with Team Challenge to support the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. A few half marathons, a wedding, and two kids later, we are still working hard to make a difference in the fight against Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Our goal is to find a cure so our two daughters, will never have to endure these diseases and we ourselves can rid our bodies of these diseases. The last year has been a struggle to say the least. Joe battled a nasty flare up of ulcerative colitis in 2021 that saw him lose 20 lbs. and start infusion treatment to get the flare under control. He is incredibly focused to get back to full strength.
Amanda has had to endure even more. She has been battling acute pancretitis for the better part of 9 months. Which has resulted in signifcant weight loss, multiple hospital stays and producures, and a toll on our family that is immeasurable.
Saying we are determined to get our diseases in check is an understatement. We are working with multiple doctors coupled with a holistic approach to get our health in order and get back to living our best lives. This is our mission and we will not slow down until it becomes our reality.
Even with all this going on, we are looking forward to a brighter and healthier future. Joe has been ramping up his training and will be running a half marathon at some point in 2022.
We are reaching out to our community for support. Please consider making a donation to support us on our journey to find a cure for these diseases. The funds that are raised go to supporting the foundation's mission to find a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis by funding the research that will further advance us in finding a cure.
Last year you helped us fundraise over $5,500! We have now raised over $40,000 to support the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. We have participated in multiple half marathons (Las Vegas x2, NYC, Savannah) and countless 5Ks and 10Ks. We will not stop until there is a cure!!!
Thank you so much for coming to our fundraising page and contributing your hard-earned money! We are truly grateful for your support!
With Love and Appreciation,
Joe & Amanda

About Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
Known collectively as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis affects almost 1 in 100 people. They are painful, medically incurable diseases that attack the digestive system. Crohn's disease may attack anywhere along the digestive tract, while ulcerative colitis inflames only the large intestine (colon). Symptoms may include abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, rectal bleeding, fever, and weight loss. Many patients require numerous hospitalizations and surgery. Most people develop the diseases between the ages of 15 and 35; however the incidence is increasing in children.
The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation is the largest non-profit, voluntary, health organization dedicated to finding cures for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). The Foundation’s mission is to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults who are affected by these diseases. The Foundation works to fulfill its mission by funding research; providing educational resources for patients and their families, medical professionals, and the public; and furnishing supportive services for those afflicted with IBD.
