This year I am participating in Spin4 Crohn's and Colitis Cures, an exciting and inspirational fundraising event! This event supports the mission of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, which is to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases.
Crohn's and ulcerative colitis (UC) fall under the category of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). While research has suggested some possible contributing factors, there is no exact known cause of these diseases. And while advancements in medicine have made leaps and bounds in the past several years to help patients manage symptoms, there is also, unfortunately, no known cure.
While the physical symptoms of IBD can be debilitating in and of themselves, being diagnosed with one of these diseases automatically puts a person at a two to three times higher risk of developing some form of mental illness, adding to the struggle of managing such diseases.*
Having friends and family affected by both Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, and myself being diagnosed with Crohn's this past year, I will participate in honor of my loved ones, myself, and the millions of other Americans affected by these debilitating digestive diseases. While many suffer in silence, Spin4 Crohn's and Colitis Cures aims to bring the community together across the country in a fun, inspiring way, and helps to shine a light for those who may be struggling in the dark.
Your donation will help support patient programs, as well as important research projects. This cause is very important to me and I appreciate your help as we fight for cures!
The more money we raise, the closer we will be to making life more manageable for patients who live with these diseases every day.
This year, I will be spinning solo, and will be taking donations through the end of August. I pledge to spin 1 mile for every $1 dollar raised, and will provide updates via social media until I've completed all miles.
I spin to educate, I spin to spread awareness, I spin to instill hope, and I spin4 crohn’s & colitis cures!

About Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis
Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are collectively known as Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) and affect millions of Americans. Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract and may affect any part from the mouth to the anus. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory condition limited to the colon, otherwise known as the large intestine. There are no cures for these often painful and debilitating diseases, and without a cure, well over half of IBD patients will require surgery throughout their lifetime.
The Mission of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation is to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases.
